The Opening Session installed our new president, Commander Edgar Wendlandt,
USCG (Ret.). He comes to us after a long and distinguished Coast Guard career followed by years of highly technical worldwide consulting in programs familiar to the
RTCM and NMEA. As a bonus, his wife, Pam, will join him to look after administration and financial issues. She has a distinguished career in finance, IT and teaching.
Rear Admiral Peter Brown, Coast Guard Commander for the Southeast US, provided

A member of the National Transportation Safety Board presented investigative
findings about the loss of the El Faro with comprehensive recommendations. He presented some recorded documentation of valiant efforts by crew members to save
the stricken vessel.
The nexus of autonomous vehicles and precise navigation: RTCM has three special committees addressing precision navigation and assured reliability for them. The
presentation covered exceptional accuracy, assured integrity, hardware implementations, and policy issues. Interesting presentations were made by representatives
from Florida Atlantic College and Rolls Royce.

• NOAA Beacon Manufacturers Workshop—RTCM and NOAA, along with major
406 MHz beacon manufacturers, held a day-long workshop to address updates
to this important life-saving technology.
