ow! We just came out of the 2015 Conference & Expo. A great time was had
by all. I received many compliments on how well the conference was
going—and went. YOUR NMEA staff, the Conference Committee and hotel
staff did an outstanding job all the way around. Give them a call, drop them an email
or if you run across them, say thanks. How about that iPad registration process?
Our partnership with ABYC was a huge success. Their Electrical Certification
course was a sellout! The other training tracks were well attended—many were
standing room only. In some training, the attendance was a threefold increase over previous years. The NMEA
training and manufacturer tracks had great support as well. Clearly, our members are looking for information
on how to successfully grow and improve their businesses.
I have heard from many of the manufacturers that they had the opportunity to see dealers and customers
that they would not normally see; several said it was the best conference they had attended in a number of
years. There were a couple first-time exhibitors that were excited and confirmed their attendance in the future!
As you are likely aware, we tried a little different approach to product voting. Utilizing our investment in
the software that produced the online trainings, we were able to provide voting online up to the night before
the awards dinner. We had the largest voting turnout ever! Thank you for all of your participation; this is what
makes it work. We look forward to even greater involvement next year. Congratulations to all the winners!!
We again had the CEO panel, this time at one of the lunches. Our panelists answered a broad range of
questions but a common theme emerged: The need for the installing NMEA dealer is bigger than ever (see
page 28). With all the wireless and handheld devices available, knowing how all this interconnects can be very
profitable. Your customers can’t get that kind of expertise from online or big-box retailers. Learn this stuff and
you will make your company stand out well above the crowd.
At the conference, we had our first Board of Directors meeting for YOUR IMEA—the International Marine
Electronics Association. The meeting went incredibly well. We have a great group of smart, energetic and compassionate people who will steer the IMEA with a steady hand. I look forward to working with them in the
Our conference was a success because of PEOPLE, most of whom were volunteers. YOUR NMEA can only
work with your input and support—get INVOLVED. I again want to give my personal thanks to all who made
this year’s conference a huge success—well done, folks. A list of the committee members is below.
As always, this is YOUR NMEA, we need your input and involvement. Call the National Office, ask to be
on a committee, see how you may help improve and grow YOUR industry association.
See you in Naples in 2016!!
