2015 NMEA INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE & EXPO
MEA’s annual convention moved to a new location this year—
Baltimore, MD— and scored big. More than 450 dealers, manufacturers, reps and other industry players attended the three-day
extravaganza, which took place Sept. 29–Oct. 1 at the Sheraton
Inner Harbor Hotel.
Highlighting the Conference & Expo were on-the-water demonstrations of new
products, a full schedule of technical and manufacturer training sessions, a product
exposition that spanned two afternoons and a tour of a sailing catamaran for disabled
sailors that owes much of its success to NMEA 2000®. On opening day, a panel of
marine electronics company CEOs gave their take on the future of the industry. At
the end of day two, scores of attendees filed into Camden Yards to watch the Orioles
beat the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of a double header.
Twenty-one technicians took the accelerated Fast Trac electrical course offered by
the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC). Also on the agenda were the basic and
advanced Marine Electronics Installer courses and a NMEA 2000 training session. As
always, the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Implementation
Task Force met to discuss a variety of topics and welcomed all to attend.
On Thursday evening, the group gathered for the annual banquet and to celebrate
the winners of the NMEA Product of Excellence Awards and the NMEA Technology
